Opposition leader Raila Odinga has refuted remarks made by President Uhuru Kenyatta that the NASA leader is in government.
Speaking during a visit in Kisumu, President Uhuru said that ‘Raila sasa ako kwa serikali ndani’.
However, speaking to the Sunday Nation Raila said he is not in government.
“Power is in government and it is wielded by those who hold the instruments of power such as the president, his deputy, and ministers. I am not in government,” the opposition chief said.
The ODM party leader said he is still in the opposition to play its oversight role.
“We are out here as opposition and want to see that the government does the right thing for the people; that is our role as the opposition,” Raila said.
While addressing Ahero residents in Kisumu on Thursday when he claimed that Raila is in government, President Uhuru did not state which position he holds and from when.
However, for political pundits, power is a perception and judged by happenings.
Since the March 9 handshake between President Uhuru and Raila, there has been a change on who Raila is within Kenya’s power circles.
President Uhuru launched the pilot phase of the Universal Health Coverage Program in Mamboleo.
The program is being implemented in Kisumu, Nyeri, Isiolo and Machakos counties before being rolled out in the other 43 counties.
To benefit from the program one needs to register in the said counties and issued with a UHC card which will enable one free health services within that county.
The pilot program will go for six months before the government launches the program to the other 43 counties.
