According to him, tourists visiting the country were being subjected to unnecessary checks and extortion when the arrived in the country, saying that the practice was hurting Kenya's image.

"There is a lot of bureaucracy and corruption. When tourists come, their luggage is searched and told to open their suitcases. You arrive and you are told to open your luggage because they want to see what you've bought for your wife and children. These people should go to Dubai and see what they do to tourists. What is happening at our airports is causing tourists, not want to come to our country," Raila Odinga said.

He spoke at the coast during his birthday that was graced by President Uhuru Kenyatta, CS Najib Balala, and Governor Joho amongst other high-profile figures.

Raila told off those hell-bent on scuttling the progress made under the handshake, saying that he was keen to work with Uhuru to expedite development in the country.
