President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday said he will not be dragged into politics as he is focused on development.
Uhuru was apparently responding to a group of Mt Kenya MPs who held a meeting in Naivasha and accused Kenyatta of neglecting Mr Kenya despite the region backing him religiously in the 2017 presidential election.
The MPs also wanted Kenyatta to lead the region in ensuring that it gets a share of the country’s goodies equal to its numerical strength.
The head of state, however, said he is not interested in politics.
“I am more concerned with developing our nation and not to engage in politics. My silence should not be taken for granted. Every leader needs to work and deliver results for all Kenyans,” Uhuru said.
Kenyatta was to meet the MPs at the regional coordinator’s home in Nyeri.
Addressing Nyeri residents, Uhuru said he wants to develop the country and that is why he reached out to Raila Odinga.
“We are committed to achieving the development agenda in this country. This is why after we won the election, we met with the leaders in opposition and we agreed to work together to develop our country," Uhuru said.
