Artist Akothee has finally hit back at critics who are condemning her for not setting a good example to the youngsters who look up to her as a role model.
According to the controversial singer, no one including her children is obligated to follow in her footsteps. She also attacked the media for not giving her songs attention yet they were at the forefront of criticizing her performance.
Students at Moi University have now come out to defend the ‘Abebo’ hit-maker claiming the artist is an adult and not answerable to anyone.
“One thing Kenyans don't understand is the fact that Akothee is a performer, and as such, she is allowed to do anything she considers right on stage. So if she has no problem spreading her legs on stage, why are Kenyans complaining,” Victor Kiptoo a second-year education student commented.
Naomi Nanchama, on the other hand, believes there is no problem with the Kenyan artists borrowing from the western community.
“The likes of Beyonce and Lady Gaga do this stuff and sometimes even worse while performing and the Kenyans don’t see anything wrong in it. So why is it wrong now that it is being done by a Kenyan? Artists like Akothee are actually trying to transform the Kenyan entertainment industry, so Kenyans should give her a break,” Nanchama noted.
But what about the African moral values? Is Akothee justified to do what is considered morally unacceptable?
“Moral values are at a personal value. We are all raised differently hence what is right to you may not be right to me. Personally, according to my moral values, I don’t think there was anything wrong with her performance. So those who think otherwise should stick to their moral values and not make everyone to adapt to their moral beliefs,” Vivian Akinyi stated.
Akothee who has been known to be a strongly opinionated person has sworn not to bow down to the social media pressure.
