Harambee Stars captain and Tottenham Hostpur midfielder, Victor Wanyama, on Wednesday paid Deputy President William Ruto a courtesy call at his office in Karen.

The footballer was accompanied by Mcdonald Mariga, who plays with second division Spanish club Real Oviedo. 

DP Ruto hailed  Wanyama for putting the country on the international map in sports. He also praised him for mentoring youths across the nation. The two were also accompanied by the members of the Wanyam Royal Challenge Cup.

"We laud footballer Victor Wanyama for promoting grassroots football in Kenya and being an inspiration, role mode to our youth, who aspire to join the professional ranks," the DP said.  

The meeting comes close to a week after Wanyama met Former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga. The footballer promised to assist Kenya go to the World Cup. 

On his part, Raila also congratulated Wanyama for his stellar career in different clubs in the world.

 “Great meeting the Kenyan Legend Victor Wanyama of Tottenham Hotspurs. He stopped by Capitol Hill and promised to carry Kenya to the next World Cup. I congratulated him on mentoring young Kenyans and encouraging them to follow his footsteps and lift the standards of football and professional sports in general in the country,” he wrote.
