President Uhuru Kenyatta pleaded with ODM leader Raila Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto to declare ceasefire in their high octane politics, an insider has said.
For close to two hours, the two leaders held closed-door meeting at Ruto's Karen residence which was also attended by Dennis Onyango, Jimmy Wanjigi and Kipchumba Murkomen.
The source, who spoke in confidence since he's not authorized to speak on behalf of Raila said: "The president was concerned on their persistent politicking and asked them to tone down in favour of development."
"The two agreed to work together unconditionally before starting 2022 politics. It was a cool meeting and the two leaders agreed to work together," he said.
On Monday, Raila's spokesman Mr Dennis Onyango released a statement where he said that his boss will now concentrate on his new assignment at the AU to improve infrastructure in the continent.
This was contrary to Raila's weekend remarks at Yimbo where he insisted that he's in 2022 race to stay.
"Raila is now focused on his new assignment. He will not take part in 2022 succession politics," Onyango said.
For Ruto, his tone also calmed down, choosing to ask leaders to work together in Migori contrary to his fireworks while on podium.
"Whether Jubilee or NASA let's work as a team. We should now focus on development because politics season is long gone."
Murkomen, who attended the rare meeting, said: "“The DP just wanted to extend an olive branch and the spirit of working together with Mr Odinga in the wake of the handshake. That was all.”https://www.nation.co.ke/news/politics/William-Ruto-hosts-Uhuru--Raila-for-political-lunch/1064-4834598-2whnjy/index.html.
