Political analyst Michael Agwanda has said that Baringo Senator Gideon Moi stands a bigger chance of winning the 2022 presidential contest than Deputy President William Ruto.
Speaking on Radio Maisha Monday morning, the commentator said that President Uhuru Kenyatta is most likely to back Gideon for the post, basing on the good Kenyatta-Moi families relationship.
Citing the betrayals that have been witnessed in the past, with ruling leaders preferring other people considered friendlier to their future plans instead of their deputies, he said that Ruto could as well be subjected to the same and abandoned ahead of the contest.
‘’Starting from Jomo Kenyatta who did not want his deputy Daniel Moi to be President to Moi who instead preferred Uhuru to succeed him, Uhuru is likely to choose Gideon over Ruto,’’ he said.
However, he faulted Moi’s softness, noting that it is upon him to now go all out in pursuit of the royal position.
‘’Moi is closer to the post than Ruto and is more probable to take over but should not expect to be given the presidency on a silver platter,’’ added Agwanda who, however, added that Moi’s win is again facing opposition from opposition leader Raila Odinga.
‘’There exists a spoiler in the equation who is Raila Odinga. With him in the ballot, neither Gideon nor Ruto will be anywhere near the victory. Raila will carry the day if he vies,’’ Agwanda said.
