Recently, an audio clip surfaced online allegedly indicating that she has a love affair with Garissa Township MP Aden Duale.

Umar has in recent days taken to social media to hit out at certain political figures over the issues being experienced in the county.

But who is Nazlin Umar?

She is popularly known as ‘Iron lady’ Mama ‘Kenya’ or ‘Wanjiku’ (the commoner).

Umar is a political activist who has been critical in pushing for international recognition of women’s rights, peace, and the plight of people living with HIV/Aids.

She is a Muslim 

Umar became the first Muslim woman to contest for the presidential seat in Kenya and Africa.

She unsuccessfully contested the 2007 and 2017 presidential election.

Umar was among founders of the National Muslim Council of Kenya (NMCK).

She is the founder of the ‘behind the veil’, a Non-profit Organization that works towards ending HIV/Aids stigma and discrimination.

Umar is married and has children.

She, however, separated from her late husband Haroon Khan who succumbed to cancer.

She loves reading novels, meeting people and engaging in community work.

The socio-political activist says that she will remain politically active and that her ambition for the presidency is still alive.

Umar says that it is time for Kenya to have a woman as president.
