Outspoken politician Bonnie Khalwale has the security officers to thank following dramatic evacuation of one of his daughters from the Dusit Hotel complex which is still under terrorists attack in Nairobi.
Earlier, a worried Khalwale took on social media on Tuesday evening to narrate about his ordeals after waiting for several hours to have his daughter rescued by specialised forces.
He said:"I am at the scene of terrorists attack and my daughter is among those trapped inside. I need your prayers friends and family."
By 10pm on Tuesday, a brief Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i told the nation that security forces has secured the 7-storey-building and that they were in the 'process of moping up the area'.
However, despite his assurances, it took the former Kakamega senator another four hours to get a relieve and he took on Twitter to congratulate the security forces for the evacuation.
"3:27am AND my Zinzi is evacuated! I thank Mr Kanja (GSU Commandant) the rescue operations commander, MIke Lekaleile (OCS Muthangari) n the rest of the security forces for saving the hostages. Islamic fundamentalism has no place in the mordern world n must be defeated." https://twitter.com/KBonimtetezi/status/1085337154836987906?s=19.
While hundreds managed to be rescued by security forces, the number of those who didn't make it is yet to be known even though some eyewitnesses claim that initially, at least six bodies could be seen in the site.
Somali based Al Shabaab militants claimed responsibility for the attack which came barely hours to the third anniversary of El Adde attack which claimed lives of over 200 KDF soldiers in the neighbouring Somalia.
Dr Matiang'i said the building had been already secured adding that Kenyans were at liberty to resume their normal businesses. However, he did not reveal the fate of assailants.
