The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has faulted the manner in which the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is effecting principals transfers.
According to KUPPET Uasin Gishu Executive Secretary Elijah Maiyo, the exercise is not being conducted in a fair manner.
“We don’t dispute the fact that TSC has the responsibility of deployment and transfer of principals but when the powers are being abused, it seizes to be transfers and becomes victimization of teachers,” said Maiyo who was speaking to the press in his office on Wednesday.
He noted that 30 principals in Uasin Gishu including teachers who were hardly two years in their station had been affected by the transfers making it very hard for them to adopt in the new station.
“Despite having an agreement with TSC that those principals who had less than five years in the station should not be transferred, it's sad that a teacher who had stayed in a school for two years had been transferred to Nakuru leaving some principals who have served in one station for over 20 years,” noted the KUPPET official.
He called on TSC to involve all education stakeholders before effecting any transfers.
