Kisii County nurses suffered a major blow on Friday after police officers declared their planned protests unlawful.
This is after the union of nurses Kisii branch secretary general Eric Rioba threatened that nurses were to hold demos in Kisii town to push the county government to pay them allowances.
Kisii police commander Martin Kibet said police will not issue a permit to nurses to hold demos.
"No one is going to issue permits to nurses to protest. Nurses should resume work as ordered by the Labour Court," he said.
Mr Kibet assured that police officers will be vigilant to keep off the nurses from Kisii streets.
Speaking in Kisii town on Friday Mr Rioba however, said nurses won't return to work even if police officers failed to permit protests.
"We will hold the demos on Monday since we are working around the clock to ensure we get approval from police officers," he said.
Rioba insisted that it is a democratic right for the nurses to hold peaceful demos.
"Residents should seek medical attention at private hospitals since nurses are on strike," he stated.
