Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has promised to use his new post as the Chair of the Council of Governors to push for the realization of the referendum push.

The push initiated by opposition leader Raila Odinga has since picked pace since its initiation after his March 9 truce with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Speaking after his win at the Movenpick Hotel in Nairobi's Westlands on Monday, Oparanya promised to enhance the push for the disbursement of more funds to the counties.

“One of the key issues I have prioritised is the reshaping of the referendum national agenda in the context of devolution,” he was quoted by the Standard.

Oparanya who is Raila's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) deputy party leader said that he will rally the entire council behind the referendum push.

“The council will purposely endeavour to drive the referendum discussion by engaging stakeholders," he said.

Raila has been pushing for among others, the reintroduction of the parliamentary governance system from the current presidential one.

He also wants the expansion of the executive to house more individuals, in what he says will eradicate feeling of exclusion among supporters of election losers.

However, its facing opposition from Deputy President William Ruto and his allies.
