Deputy President William Ruto was on Tuesday forced to cancel a visit to Nyeri.
Ruto was reportedly set to visit Nyeri for the inauguration of water companies’ games but canceled the schedule as it emerged the all the top Nyeri leaders had been called to a meeting by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
It is not yet clear if President Uhuru had prior knowledge that Ruto was to tour the region.
The development exposed the communication breakdown between State House and the Harambee Annex as the DP would not have planned for the visit if he was aware of the President’s meeting with area leaders on the same day.
Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, his deputy, Women Rep, Senator and six MPs are among those the President met and there was no one to receive the DP.
Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu said the meeting was for leaders to lobby development for the region.
