A man stabbed himself with a kitchen knife to death on Monday after a heated quarrel with his elder brother.
The incident happened in Nyantira, Kionduso in Kisii County.
Kisii police commander Martin Kibet said the deceased Evans Machuki quarreled with his elder brother over 40 tins of maize he wanted to sell before he took his own life.
"Machuki threatened to kill himself after his elder brother turned down his proposal to sell maize. Living true to his threats he picked a kitchen knife which he used to stab himself in the stomach," said Kibet.
Mr. Kibet said neighbors rushed the deceased to RAM hospital Kisii for treatment but, unfortunately, he was pronounced dead on arrival.
"Cases of people killing themselves are at the peak in the recent days. Residents should stop taking suicide as the last option but consider seeking spiritual guidance from members of the clergy whenever they are faced with difficulties in life as this will help in curbing unnecessary deaths," he noted.
He said the body of the deceased was moved to RAM hospital morgue waiting for burial.
