Contrary to the expectations of many, Deputy President William Ruto returned to Migori on Monday with thousands lining up to have at least a glimpse him.

Coming just barely a month after a closely contested by-election that saw Eddy Oketch, a candidate closely linked to him, Ruto addressed rallies at Masara market and Suna East along with area governor Okoth Obado.

With virtually all elected leaders snubbing him, Obado, who was released a fortnight ago after spending 34 days in prison, defied the odds and showed up in the rally.

"This is Migori, our people have communicated that they want politics of development and I am happy that what is happening.

"Elections are long over and it's time to work together as a team, proper in unity," said Ruto amid cheers from the crowd.

On Friday, the DP hosted President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga at his Karen home with details of their meeting still remaining scanty.

At all the stopovers, Obado stayed calm, only thanking the government for considering improvement of infrastructure in the South Nyanza region which is majorly associated with opposition politics.

"We ask the government to bring more. We want our people to live in unity and harmony. Nobody will distabilize that again," he said.

Last year, Migori was one of the counties that boycotted repeat Presidential elections after Raila's command.
