In a move aimed at quelling tension in the populous Rift Valley region, Deputy President William Ruto on Sunday dismissed reports that President Uhuru Kenyatta might abandon him for a different candidate in 2022.
Instead, the Jubilee Party deputy leader told a gathering that his relationship with the Head of State is intact, adding that they should 'ignore rumours being spread by the media'.
“Everything is okay in government; ignore the fake news; do not rely on social media and newspaper stories because we have no time for rumours and riddles that will not help us take the country forward in socio-economic development,” Dr Ruto said as reported by Nation.
Early this year, former Jubilee Vice Chair David Murathe, a close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta, caused fears within the ruling party when he declared that DP Ruto was unfit to run for president.
And in a rejoinder, Ruto's team let by Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi demanded that the president comes out public over the matter even as the president stayed clear off the storm.
At Kericho on Sunday, Ruto wrote on Facebook that; "Commit your way to the Lord. Trust also in Him and He shall bring it to pass. At an interdenominational church service and thanksgiving ceremony of Florence Bore, Kericho County Women Representative, Bureti, Kericho County."
In October 2018 at Nyeri, Uhuru who has been warning politicians against early campaigns said his choice for 2022 could shock many people, a statement that also caused political storm in Jubilee.
