Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho was put on spot in March 2017, by a section of ODM party leaders in Kwale County.
Led by Sheikh Amiri Banda, the Muslim leaders accused Joho who doubles up as ODM Deputy Party Leader, of interfering with the party's democracy.
They warned Joho, expressing fears that the Jubilee Party would win many elective seats during the August 8, 2017 general elections if ODM fails to ensure a free, fair and transparent party primaries.
The leaders accused Joho of trying to push for his preferred candidates to clinch ODM party tickets in various seats including gubernatorial and senatorial seats in Kwale county.
"Stop meddling in Kwale County politics, and let the people to choose their own candidates. Our fight is to ensure that Jubilee stands no chance in Kwale, but now it appears that we want to fight each other from within ODM," Sheikh Amir Banda told the press in Kwale.
ODM's Kwale Secretary General, Omar Boga, decried that the Raila Odinga-led party would experience massive defections if the issues raised would have been resolved.
