Political commentator and governance expert Peter Kagwanja has cautioned people anticipating President Uhuru Kenyatta's retirement in 2022 of a shocker.
Speaking on Radio Maisha on Monday morning, the analyst argued that though Uhuru is expected to retire in 2022, he is very unlikely to exit active politics and might remain around the trappings of power.
He warned politicians awaiting to succeed Uhuru as the Central Kenya kingpin that they are set for a surprise as the Head of State is not going anywhere.
"There is nothing like Kenyatta succession in Kenya and in Mt Kenya region. He is going nowhere and people expecting his exit should get something else to do," argued Prof. Kagwanja.
He said that Kenyan politicians are known to the only exit due to old age and Uhuru is not an exception, giving an example of retired president Mwai Kibaki who exit to the misgivings of old age.
He predicted a reunion of Uhuru and opposition leader Raila Odinga who also remains active despite being in his 70s, adding that they might erupt with another scheme to retain them in power.
"He is very young, Kenyan leaders never retire until age forces them. People should expect to see him unite with Raila and bring in a new thing that will keep them active for some more years," advised Kagwanja.
However, while Uhuru has since made it clear that he will exit the presidency in 2022, he said last year that his next plan will come as a shocker.
