Dental hygiene is important for your general body health. Here are 5 tips that will help you look after your teeth;
1. Brush at least twice a day.
Since childhood, we have been advised to ensure we brush at least twice a day.
Funny enough, we have grown to believe just once is enough. Dentist urge us to do it at least twice; morning and evening and especially after meals.
2. Limit or avoid acidic drinks
Acidic drinks such as most soft drinks dissolve important minerals that make up the teeth enamel.
Once these minerals are eroded, the teeth begins to have cavities and develop rough surfaces. Such acids can erode the teeth up to the gums.
3. Use fluoridated toothpastes
Fluoridated toothpastes are those that have optimum fluoride content.
Fluoride helps strengthen the enamel making it less likely to decay and get eroded. Excessive fluoride is harmful to the teeth.
4. Avoid smoking or using smokeless tobacco
Smoke from cigarette is known to stain teeth. This is why most people who smoke have stained teeth.
Smoking also causes gum diseases which can in turn cause oral cancer.
5. Drink more water
Water is considered the most important liquid ever. Not even blood can beat it because blood itself is made of water.
Drinking water after every meal is important as it washes away all food or acidic contents that may remain stuck on teeth that can cause decay.
