The latest appointment of Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i as the chairman of the newly created National Development Implementation and Communication Committee makes him the unofficial second in command, a political analyst has observed.
According to former Juja parliamentary seat aspirant Tony Gachoka, by giving Matiang'i the role to supervise other Cabinet Secretaries, President Uhuru Kenyatta made the Interior CS more powerful than Deputy President William Ruto.
Noting that in his new job he will be reporting directly to the Head of State, Gachoka observed Matiang'i has been elevated to 'Chief Minister', hence 'surpassing the DP'.
The analyst opined by 'demoting' Ruto, the President was holding him responsible for the massive loss of money in various ministries which was threatening to bring down the government.
He alleged the DP was spending about Sh50 million weekly in his tours to various parts of the country, the money whose source he has failed to explain.
"President Uhuru Kenyatta @UKenyatta cracks the whip in the first move to hold DP William Ruto accountable for Billions of Funds in unexplained wealth which is crippling Kenya. On average Kshs. 50 million is spent across the country per week doing ‘development’ & Church donations!" Gachoka tweeted on Wednesday.
There have been reports that the relationship between the President and his deputy has become frosty since the handshake between Uhuru and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
