Kibabii University has been closed down indefinitely following unrest by students on Friday after one of them was hit by a speedy vehicle.

In an emergency Senate held on Saturday morning at the Vice Chancellor's boardroom, the Senate resolved to close the university citing the disruption of programmes

In a notice posted on the university's Twitter handle, students were asked to vacate the premises immediately.

Following the incident, students held demonstrations pelting stones and breaking windows at the main university gate and other lecture rooms.

Here is a notice from the institution ordering students to vacate:

"Following the disruption of University programmes by students on the night of Friday 22nd March, 2019 and the morning of Saturday 23rd March, 2019, and in view of the safety of students, staff and property of the University and the surrounding community, the University Senate in its Special Meeting held on Saturday 23rd March, 2019 at 10.00 am in the Vice Chancellor’s Boardroom A, resolved to close the University indefinitely.

"In view of the foregoing, all students are required to vacate the University premises today Saturday 23rd March, 2019 by 2.00 pm." read the notice
