Garissa Governor Ali Korane has been arrested over attempted murder of former county finance CEC Idriss Mukhtar.

Governor Korane was arrested early Tuesday morning at his house in Kilimani.

The governor and the other suspects were taken to Nairobi Area Police Station for questioning after they were linked into the shooting of Mr Mukhtar.

Police officers had camped outside the governor’s house in Kilimani overnight and they arrested the governor and three other suspect at 5am when they were coming out.

The former Garissa CEC was shot in the head and left for dead outside a hotel in Kileleshwa, Nairobi last week.

Mr Mukhtar was rushed to Nairobi Hospital where he was admitted in critical condition and he is still in ICU.

The police said that Mr Mukhtar had gone for prayers at a nearby mosque and was leaving for his house when he was attacked by a gunman who shot him at close range in the head before escaping without stealing anything from him.

The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) ordered for speedy investigation into the shooting.
