Just days after holding a decisive meeting seeking to solidify the Coast political block heading into the 2022 general election, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi are finding themselves on the receiving end from a section of the leaders from the region.
At the heart of firing the salvos is Owen Baya, the firebrand Kilifi North MP who has of late been gravitating to the Deputy President William Ruto's political axis.
According to the lawmaker, the last week meeting that was chaired by Joho and Kingi had nothing to do with the affairs of the region but was meant to massage the political egos of some individuals.
"I'm convinced that the meeting was about individual's abilities and ambitions and not about the Coast as a community. How does that one individual intend to solve huge problems of the region," said the first-time lawmaker.
With Baya reading from a different political page amid the ongoing scramble for the Coast, it remains to be seen what the future holds for the region going into the 2022 battle.
