Kilifi North MP Owen Baya has opposed plans by the Kilifi County Assembly to construct Sh1 billion Kilifi County Assembly block.
This is after the Acting County Assembly clerk, Speaker Silas Kahindi placed an advert in local dailies, asking eligible contractors to bid various tenders before construction of the structure begins.
However, Kilifi North MP has opposed the plan by Kilifi MCAs, saying the County has more pressing needs that require funds in direct benefit of the people.
The MP condemned the plan by the County Assembly, saying the County cannot continue to use the little resources it has, to provide luxurious lifestyle to MCAs while residents suffer poverty and food insecurity.
"As Kilifi County we have more pressing needs to provide services to our people. We cannot continue to use the little resources we have to provide luxurious lifestyle to our MCAs while people suffer poverty and food insecurity," he said on Friday.
Baya who opposed construction of the County Assembly office block during his tenure as the County Secretary, called on Governor Amason Kingi to stop the construction of the Sh1 billion structure, and reign on Speaker Kahindi for 'wasting' public funds.
The lawmaker has vowed to do everything in his means, to stop the construction of the office block.
"I am urging Governor Amason Kingi to stop that Kshs. 1 billion building by County Assembly of Kilifi and reign on speaker Kahindi to stop wasting public funds. I opposed this building while I was CS and I will continue opposing it till sense prevails," said Baya in a statement.
