A medical intern at Makairo Sub-County Hospital in Nyamira South Sub-County has been charged with the rape of a female patient.
Appearing before Nyamira High Court Resident Judge Esther Maina on Tuesday, Kennedy Omingo denied committing the offence.
Omingo through his advocate Edward Nyangaresi pleaded not guilty to the rape allegations levelled against him by the prosecutor.
The court heard that on June 12, 2019, at Makairo Sub-County Hospital, Omingo allegedly raped a 20-year-old woman which is against the code of conduct for health practitioners as well as against the law.
The court clerk further stated that apart from the rape allegations, Omingo was also facing an alternative charge of committing an indecent act with an adult.
Prosecutor Eliud Ouma told the court that the evidence documented revealed that the female patient was raped at the hospital while undergoing a CT scan.
“According to the recent report we received from the government facility, the accused injected the patient with drugs before raping her," said Ouma.
The accused was released on a bond of Sh150,000 with a surety of a similar amount.
