Chief Justice David Maraga will have not maneuver in traffic jams just like any other ordinary Kenyan if the statement released by Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai in anything to go by.
The IG gave five categories which would get VIP treatment on roads and major highways, with the President of Supreme Court and Head of Judiciary missing from the list.
"In light of streamlining traffic flow in major cities, I hereby direct guidelines concerning entitlement and privileges on clearance of vehicles for VIP on roads and highways," read part of the statement.
President, Deputy President, First Lady, Cabinet Secretaries for Interior, Defense and Foreign Affairs are in category one. Interior PS is also included.
In category two, Chief of Defense Forces, Service Commanders, IG, Deputy IGs were included. The Speaker of National Assembly and Senate along Majority Leaders are in third category.
Former presidents, former Prime Minister are in forth category while Fire fighters and ambulances are in fifth category. There is no mention of CJ despite having been enjoying the privileges.
"Any other vehicle will require authority by Traffic Officer in charge in certain region on special cases," the statement added.
All government vehicles which are not associated with people in those categories will have to follow normal traffic rules. Anyone who may violate it, will be in trouble.
"Any Government vehicle found violating traffic regulations especially those overlapping, the driver shall be arrested and charged in accordance to the law.The directive takes place with immediate effect," said Mutyambai.
Also missing from the list are former Vice Presidents Musalia Mudavadi and Kalonzo Musyoka. They will however, enjoy retirement perks following a legislation by National Assembly.
