Kakamega County Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has been admitted in hospital after collapsing while in a public event.
The ODM second deputy party leader collapsed on Tuesday at Bukhungu Stadium as he presided over the Kakamega County Community Administrators pass out.
"Governor Oparanya today collapsed during an event in Bukhungu Stadium, Kakamega. He has been transferred to Nairobi for medication," his press team confirmed on Twitter shortly after the incident which left residents and participants in shock.
The officers will ensure county government directives and services reach the lowest level of administration. A total of 300 admins were expected to pass out.
Oparanya was accompanied by his deputy Prof. Philip Museve Kutima who assured participants that the governor would be okay and that there was no need to worry.
The county boss had a day earlier met the administrators saying they "went through a professional and competitive recruitment process hence the need for them to observe integrity and diligence at their workplace."
Their role is so important to the delivery of devolution benefits to the people that they had to undergo a long and rigorous vetting process.
He reminded them that they will be the direct link between the county government and the residents at the grassroots level.
Oparanya who has shown interest in vying for the presidency in 2022 through ODM, is among renown leaders in the Luhya politics.
