With the 2022 elections drawing nearer, a bitter contest is expected for the Homabay gubernatorial seat.
The race is expected to pit National Assembly Minority Leader and Suba parliamentarian John Mbadi and area Women Representative Gladys Wanga.
Being among the most vocal opposition politicians from the Luo Nyanza region, the pending race will be a bruising one.
Also considering that both enjoy a good relationship with opposition leader Raila Odinga who is also the region’s ultimate political decision-maker, it will be a race about who gets his endorsement.
Both leaders were also in Raila’s campaign trail in the concluded presidential election, giving the electorate a harder time deciding who was the most objective in Raila’s presidential bid.
This is because basing on the region’s love and admiration for the leader, whoever seems closer and helpful to him is the most likely to have the votes.
But the race will be decided on the primaries level, with the person succeeding to take the area dominant Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) most likely to win.
Consequently, this will turn the county into a battle zone as the two scramble for the ticket, turning it onto a noisy and colourful zone as they hold campaigns.
Whoever will win must be appreciated as a great person for overcoming the other as both are very powerful and influential leaders and might emerge as the region's political chief in the near future.
