During his fierce times as opposition leader, Odinga called for the prosecution of Waiguru, linking her to the 2016 Sh1.8 billion NYS scandal which saw several other government officials prosecuted.

He opposed Waiguru's interest in politics months after resignation and accused President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee administration of shielding her.

Joho who is the ODM deputy party leader backed Odinga, demanding for the immediate arrest and prosecution of Waiguru saying she was the lead suspect who pocketed the taxpayer's money from NYS coffers.

Campaigning for Odinga's 2017 presidential race, Joho cautioned the Coast region against Waiguru and the Jubilee government, saying they were one.

However, Odinga who is Governor Joho's ODM party leader gave Kenyans a surprise after holding talks with Waiguru and burying their hatchet.

"Held a meeting this afternoon with the Governor of Kirinyaga County Anne Waiguru and agreed to “let by-gones be by-gones” and leave the matter of the NYS scandal in the hands of investigators," said Odinga shortly after the Wednesday meeting.

Waiguru said her case against Odinga was now settled in the spirit of reconciliation that the nation has embarked on following the March 9, handshake between President Kenyatta and Odinga.

The two also reviewed the status of devolution in the country and agreed to exchange views frequently on how to address the challenges.

Odinga's meeting with Waiguru poses as a challenge to Joho who is seeking for the presidency come 2022.

When Odinga buried hatchet with Uhuru, Joho supported the move saying it was in the spirit of peace and reconciliation and asked Coast residents to rally behind the Building Bridges Initiative the two national leaders had started.
