The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) on Monday warned Kenyans against falling victims to a criminal group defrauding innocent taxpayers, through a fake Facebook account of Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary (CS) Monica Juma.

In a tweet, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the office of the DCI reminded the general public that the CS only has one account

The DCI further noted that Juma has no Facebook account, adding that any Kenyans who have already lost money, and other resources to the criminals, should report the matter to the investigative organ so that action can be taken against them.

“We urge anyone who has been defrauded through this manner to report to us through our email: director@cid.go.ke or DM us. Detectives from the Cyber Crime Unit have already commenced investigations into this matter with the aim of bringing all those involved to justice,” DCI tweeted on Tuesday.

Earlier on, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had expressed concern that some innocent Kenyans were being duped by persons who claimed to be CS Juma.

"Our attention has been drawn to a number of social media accounts that are impersonating the CS MFA (Amb Monica Juma-@Diplomacy_Kenya). Unfortunately, these accounts are being used to solicit money from unsuspicious individuals.

"We therefore urge anyone with information on those operating the account below or any other account to share with us or investigating agencies for action," the ministry said.
