Fidel Odinga, the eldest son to Raila Odinga, persistently pressured his father to intervene and have businessman Don Bosco Gichana released from prison, it has emerged.

At Kang'o ka Jaramogi on Friday, the populous politician across Gusii region narrated for the first how the late Fidel Odinga gave his all to have him released by Tanzania authorities following his arrest in 2013 over money laundering and fraud.

"Fidel I love and Miss you. I wasn't there.. Today I almost believed you not any more but again I didn't get the time I needed. You know how you stressed Jakom and you reached Namanga with Harriet to see me. 

"Luckily I got your text on my phone and told you not to come over to see me. I hear you cursed a lot on your way back. I will come before memorial to visit you. Today was a bit mixed up. Thanks for being there for me...till we meet. Yours Jatelo."

Mr Gichana was released from Arusha prison in September this year after pleading guilty to money laundering and fraud, a deal that was reached by Mr Odinga and Tanzania president John Magufuli.

Upon return, a homecoming ceremony was held in Gusii stadium and saw several leaders and supporters from across Gusii region attend.

In 2007, Mr Gichana played a fundamental role in Raila's campaigns across Kisii snd Nyamira Counties and is credited for the famous Hammer which ferried Mr Odinga across the country.
