Leaders from Garissa united in condemning an incident at Fafi Girls secondary school parent’s day saying that it should never be repeated again.
The leaders who included Aden Duale[Grissa township, Sophia Abdinoor[Ijara]Omar Shurie[Balambala], Women representative Annab Gure and the host MP Abdikarim Osman[Fafi] said that such incidences set a bad example especially to the young ones.
They were referring to an incident at the school two weeks ago which ended prematurely after chaos erupted, this is after area MP Abdikarim Osman demanded that the programme is changed to make him the guest of honour.
The chief guest was to be national director of basic education Habert Sheikh.
During the incident, police had to shoot in the air to disperse the two groups that were baying for each other’s blood.
Duale while describing the incident as ‘unfortunate and one that should not have happened in the first place’ urged leaders to behave themselves especially when in public functions.
“These young children look up to us as their role models.so when we resort to fighting and name calling in full glare of their eyes, then we are only setting a bad example,” said Duale.
He said poverty eradication through collaboration between the national and county government was paramount.
Bura ward MCA Abdullahi Omar said that all that had happened during that day was now water under the bridge and that such an incident will never occur again.
“As leaders from the top leadership to the bottom we are more united and ready to serve our electorates, no one is interested with the political sideshows that will not change the lives of our people,” he said.
On her part, Ijara MP Sophia urged the government to employ more female teachers and post them to girls as part of an affirmative action to increase female ration in the school.
