Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has admitted that he is indeed wealthy.
In an interview on Milele FM’s ‘Kivumbi’ on Thursday morning, the county chief who recalled being poor during his childhood noted that he has since managed to overcome poverty.
He termed himself as a hardworking man who has acquired all his property out of his own sweat.
He also revealed that he is a skilled businessman who has ventured into several business fronts, one of them being the aviation sector.
‘’Mimi nilikuwa maskini na mali niliyo nayo sasa ni kwa sababu ya bidii (I was poor but overcame it through hard work),’’ he said.
‘’Mimi nafanya biashara, niko chapchap na sasa nimeanza biashara ya usafiri wa ndege (I am a skilled businessman and has now ventured into the aviation sector),’’ he added.
Coming at a time when some of his colleagues and former Governors are facing graft allegations and are accused of misusing their offices to enrich themselves, Mutua maintained that he remains clean.
He took credit as the first person to propose the lifestyle audit test, noting that he has since presented himself to the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) for examination.
‘’Mimi ndiye niliyekuwa wa kwanza kupendekeza ile lifestyle audit. Nilijipeleka mwenyewe kwa EACC nikawaambia waje wanichunguze (I was the first one to propose the test, I have also since presented myself for investigations at the EACC),’’ he added.
