Slain Rongo University student Sharon Otieno was on Friday laid to rest at her paternal grandfather's homestead in Magare Village, Homabay County.

This, however, is in contravention to her family's initial vow to only lay her to rest upon the completion of the ongoing probe on her killers.

The sudden change of heart must have been fuelled by the increasing morgue charges at the Med25 Hospital Mortuary where she had been lying for close to a month.

And with the family having been forced to seek help and hold fundraisers to foot the bill, it would have been unreasonable to postpone her burial further, and would have increased the burden.

Also, the case which involves Migori Governor Okoth Obado seems nowhere near ending, with the prosecution side yet to conclude on its investigations.

Consequently, the Governor and his associates Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero have been to court and back to remand severely, making it better to rest the deceased.

It was, therefore, better to let her rest as they await the remaining part.

And since the prosecution seems very committed to prosecute the issue to the core, the family must have decided to do away with the uphill task of organizing her burial and await the remaining part.

Sharon's lifeless body was retrieved from a thicket near Oyugis Town in Homabay early last month.

All the leading suspects in the case have denied the charges.
