Ijara Member of Parliament Sophia Abdi Noor has won a prestigious continental award in Namibia in recognition of her outstanding leadership.
Breaking the news via her social media page, MP Sofia revealed that she was grateful to have been awarded the highly prestigious award.
“I am thrilled, honoured and grateful to have been awarded the Continental Pride of African Women Accolades Award for my role towards Africa Women Emancipation in Africa,” she posted.
The top award, which was issued by the Women Advancement in Economic and Leadership Foundation in Africa (Waele Africa), appreciated the strategic roles the lawmaker undertook towards realizing African women emancipation.
The accolade branded 'Pride of African Women Award' was delivered to her while in Namibia during an annual summit aimed at promoting the political realisation of women's larger roles in conflict management, resolution and also post-conflicts peace development.
The continental summit also seeks to nurture an overall analysis of overall women's traditional roles in peacebuilding across Africa.
The selection criterion was based on several case studies undertaken by the Unesco special programme on women and the maintenance of peace in Africa as a continent.
