Police in Kisumu are holding a man said to be an ally of Migori Governor Okoth Obado.Mr Jared Kwaga was on Friday arrested for what the police termed driving in a car with the wrong registration numbers.
He was nabbed a few moments after landing at the Kisumu International Airport while driving along the Jomo Kenyatta Highway, near the Kisumu Statehouse.
Confirming the arrest, Nyanza region Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) boss said that Kwaga's Land Cruiser V8 car had KCF 466Y which it's not registered under.
Kisumu Divisional Criminal Investigation Officer (DCIO) Noah Kitumo said that the latter will spend the weekend in police custody pending his arraignment on Monday.
"We are conducting investigations to establish his intentions for using a vehicle with a wrong number plate.
We have to lock him up as we conduct investigations before presenting him in court," he told the Nation.
The police added that the vehicle's number plate should read KCF 757Y.
Kwaga is one of the suspects being probed in the Shs 2 billion scandal facing the Governor.
Obado is facing allegations of using companies registered under relatives to trade with the county.
He was in November last years arrested over the allegations alongside others of wrongly possessing 8 guns before being released.
