Police in Emali, Makueni County on Sunday nabbed a Toyota Saloon car ferrying bhang worth Sh3 million. Confirming the incident, Makueni Administration Police Commander Joseph Ole said that the security officers netted the 6180 rolls of bhang while on its way to Nairobi from Mombasa.
The occupants of the car, whose identity has not been revealed, reportedly refused to stop after police on patrol attempted to flag them down. The police were tempted to chase after the car before nabbing them moments later after 5 kilometers.
The occupants managed to escape from the scene of crime before leaving the car. Police have now launched a manhunt for the suspected drug trafficking business.
“Emali police were carrying out daily patrols along the busy highway when they noticed a suspecting vehicle. They stopped it but the driver sped off approaching Mombasa direction, something that prompted police to chase them,” said Naipeiyan.
Police are now working with NTSA to find the rightful owner of the vehicle. They will also retrieve the calls of the three suspects in order to arrest them.
The police also arrested suspect drug dealers while on their way to transport bhang worth Sh1 million on January 4 on the same Highway as the fight against the illegal business continues.
