Kisii County governor James Ongwae has confirmed that Kisii town residents will get un-interrupted water supply beginning April in 2019.
Ongwae said his government is committed to ensure the ongoing major rehabilitation works at the Kegati water supply plant is complete in time.
"My Government will continue to support the partnership with the German Development Bank (KFW) and Gusii Water and Sanitation Company (GWASCO) to ensure the project becomes a reality. The water scheme is a vision 2030 project which will benefit residents of both Kisii and Nyamira counties. Once complete, the supply of water in Kisii and its environs will be increased to 27 million litres per day from the current six million litres and will address water shortage in Kisii town and surrounding suburbs," said Ongwae.
According to Ongwae, areas such as Iyabe Sub-County Hospital and market centres including Nyaguta, Nyabioto, Motonto, Kerina, Gesonso, Mosocho, Jogoo, Mwembe, Nyakoe, Egesa, Menyinkwa and Bobaracho among others will get water 24 hours.
He noted that the construction of a 5-million-litre tank at Bobaracho, 2.5 million storage reservoir at Kegati and another 0.5 million at Nyanguru is already complete.
"Laying of the supply pipeline is on course with consideration of additional line from Kegati to Keumbu to service Keumbu, Nyamware, Nyakororo, Nyabisabo among other regions," he added.
