A court in Eldoret has jailed three men for 150 years after finding them guilty of robbery with violence.
Appearing before Eldoret Senior Resident Magistrate Harrison Barasa on Tuesday, the three were also found guilty of gang rape.
In his ruling, the magistrate sentenced each suspect to 30 years for robbery and an additional 20 for gang rape. Their sentences will run concurrently.
The crimes, according to the Standard were committed on July 3, 2016.
During a hearing of the case, the court was told that the suspects Gilbert Lime, Isaac Maiyo Bett and Josphat Kipruto Bett committed the robbery in Bandari Village in Lugari constituency, Kakamega county.
“The prosecution has proved its case as against Bett, Lime and Kipruto beyond any reasonable doubt. I find them guilty and convict them under section 215 of the Criminal Procedure Code," the magistrate said as quoted by the Standard.
According to the prosecution, the trio forcefully robbed a woman gadgets and electrical appliances amounting to Sh200, 000.
They were also found guilty of defiling 3 minors aged between 16 and 17 years on the same night of the robbery.
The convicts have 14 days to appeal the ruling.
