Eldoret is regarded as the fastest growing town in Kenya. Its streets are busy with a lot of activities ranging from overcrowding and traffic flow in 24-hours.
Businesses in Eldoret town is done throughout the day and night making it a 24-hour economy. But once nightlife switches on, night dealers emerge.
In the streets, you will find all kinds of businesspeople. There are those selling boiled eggs and 'njugu'. They target men who are in to reprieve their sexual thirst because it is believed the two products boost manpower between the sheets.
There are also traders roaming the streets selling tea or coffee to customers who want to 'kill' the night cold.
Throughout some of the streets, you will find flesh peddlers negotiating prices with potential customers. Nearby, there are low-cost lodges for the thin pocket clients to melt their prey.
Kimutai who has a restaurant in Eldoret said the twilight girls standing outside brothels and clubs usually spot clients and approach them.
"These money-thirsty ladies stand there waiting for any potential customer of which they fast approach him upon seeing," said Kimutai.
A man who did not want to be identified because he is usually a client there said value ranges from Sh50 to Sh2,500 depending on the agreed duration and age of the peddler.
"Those who are extremely beautiful are expensive compared to those ageing, dirty and ugly," said the man.
Tairus who works in one of the offices in Eldoret said as the dark beckons, the traders selling phonographic film emerges. There are also drug peddlers selling illegal drugs but will not sell to the unknown client for fear of being arrested.
"Children buy phonographic videos in the streets at night. Drugs are also all over the streets but you won't be sold unless you are taken by a known customer," claimed Tairus.
Just like other cities, criminal activities are also common. Thugs collude with prostitutes to spot a client to steal from. There are cases where travellers have been robbed in the streets.
Despite these weird things about Eldoret streets at night, it makes it flamboyant and thick with a freshness of growing town.
