Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, in June 2017 caused a stir in Kakamega during NASA coalition's Raila Odinga, presidential campaign launch.
Odinga had to cut short his speech as the crowd cheered for Joho as he made his way to the podium.
When he took over the microphone slammed the Jubilee government, saying he will not be deterred by the state from criticising what he termed as “their bad leadership”.
"I will not be scared or intimidated by President Uhuru by being stopped from attending state functions in Mombasa county. I will not give up on attending state functions in Mombasa, Uhuru can bar me from attending events but he cannot shut my mouth,” Joho said.
He asked opposition supporters to widely participate in the August 8, 2017 general elections to oust the Jubilee government by voting for Odinga as the president.
“I call on each one of us to work together and vote out Uhuru and Ruto to end their looting and the suffering of Kenyans,” he said.
The governor had been blocked from attending President Kenyatta’s SGR launch in Miritini.
