If you were visiting Nakuru Town for the first time, and decided to take a tour around the suburbs, you would be forgiven if you thought you were taking a world tour.
With a number of estates and matatu stages named after different towns in the world, you can just close your eyes and imagine you were shuttling from one part of the world to the other.
First, we have London and Bangladesh estates. The two estates in the west side of Nakuru are not really far apart but their history goes far into the past.
However, its Langalanga estate that takes the prize. A ride along the famous Kanu street will take you past several Kenyan towns.
As the stretch begins, there is Nanyuki and Kericho stages. Barely a kilometre away, there is Kirinyaga and Embu and further on there is Eldoret.
Imagine you’re a visitor travelling here with your eyes closed. And passengers are alighting at each of these matatu stages.
“Weka Nanyuki.”
“Shukisha Kericho.”
“Zuia hapo Eldoret,”
Doesn’t it feel weird? But this is not all.
Along route 46 you have to go through Philadelphia and Kawangware. Further down, along Baringo Street, you make stops at Toronto named after a major town in Canada. The Beverly stage will have you thinking you just landed in Massachusetts but the truth is you’re still in Nakuru.
The icing on the cake however is Whitehouse stage along the Nakuru-Nyahururu road just past Nakuru Boys High school.
