A woman aged 46 died after she was electrocuted by electricity.
The incident happened on Friday evening in Riosugo Nyacheki Kisii County.
It is alleged that the deceased touched a naked electricity wire with bare hands.
“Electricity was recently connected to her house. She touched a naked wire which connected electricity to her house from her son’s house. She died on spot because no one was in the house when the incident happened except her 15 year old grandchild who was watching television,” said the deceased daughter Mellen Motari.
Area chief Dismas Onsinyo confirmed the incident and warned locals against leaving electricity wires saying it is risking their lives.
“It is bad to lose people like Margaret who have been good role models in society through such careless accidents. People connecting electricity should ensure qualified electricians are hired to do the wiring not quack,” he said.
He called on Kenya power officials in the area to ensure no homestead is illegally connected with electricity and any hanging electricity wire to be tightened to avoid unnecessary deaths.
The chief said the deceased body was taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral hospital mortuary waiting for burial.
