Western is one of the region’s that has in the past general elections overwhelmingly voted for opposition leader Raila Odinga in the presidential election.
Raila boasts of massive following among the Luhya community, and will be seeking to consolidate the support should he opt to contest the presidential election in 2022, or campaign for another candidate.
However, things might not be easy for the ODM Party leader in the Western region should he opt to contest.
A section of leaders from the region who were once considered his allies have rebelled against him, and even vowed to teach him a bitter political lesson for allegedly betraying the community.
Here are three politicians likely to give Raila 'headache' in Western should he contest in 2022.
1. Moses Wetangula
The Bungoma Senator fell-out with Raila after he was removed from the Senate minority leadership position.
Wetangula has since vowed to make sure that Western region never votes for Raila again.
2. Boni Khalwale
The former Kakamega Senator was once a close ally of Raila Odinga.
However, he has lately been criticizing Odinga, and has openly declared support for Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid.
3. Benjamin Washiali
The Mumia East MP is a harsh critic of Odinga and a close ally of DP Ruto.
Washiali has made it clear that the Luhya community will back Ruto’s 2022 bid.
It will be interesting to see how Raila will convince the Western voters to back him should he contest in 2022 general election.
