Imagine living in a world without rules, the kind of chaos and anarchy that would be experienced would be definitely overwhelming.
Now you can imagine being in a relationship without rules- one would even opt for a single stress-free life.
Therefore the society has its heart in the right place by placing constraints in terms of guidelines and expectations on individuals based on their interactions- some by legal obligation while others purely by providing moral standards.
However, like life itself, rules get old and die. Relationship rules are the unwritten, invisible and implicit laws that we live by that forms the frame of operation.
However, there are some rules that no longer hold as much weight as they did before:
1. You can't love me and not love my family
Sometimes it all boils down to the aspect of respect. Some family members are normally stubborn and difficult to get along with. You shouldn't force your partner to like them.
2. Resolve your issues before you go to bed
It's highly advisable that a couple resolves conflict before they fall asleep. However, sometimes sleeping on it provides the much-needed space and time for reflection.
3. Your man should settle the bill
The world is changing, and gender roles aren't what they used to be some years back. A couple can make their own rules depending on their financial capabilities.
4. Abstinence before marriage
For Christians, this should come as a no-brainer. However, given the current trend in the dating scene, it is clear that this rule doesn't really seem to make sense anymore.
6. Friends of the opposite gender
Depending on the relationship and genuineness of the friendship, partners can allow their significant others to have friends of the opposite sex.
7. Your sex-life has to be perfect always
This can be considered wishful thinking. Sex, like everything else in life and relationships changes with time. Sometimes it's going to be incredible while at other times, it won't be as impressive. This is only natural.
