A brother-in-law to governor John Nyagarama (pictured) is missing, three days after his arrest by the detectives.
Mr. Ondara Obutu, an employee in the county government of Nyamira, was nabbed by detectives believed to be from Kisii on Monday evening but efforts by the family to establish his whereabouts have hit dead-end.
"I cannot say that he was arrested because we cannot establish his whereabouts. His phone is off for the third day but we are yet to trace him," Kiage Obutu, his brother claimed.
About ten residents had reported his alleged fraudulent activities where he was collecting between Sh200,000 to Sh300, 000 at the governor's boardroom on pretext that he would help them secure employment.
One of the victim who spoke in confidence suspected foul play, insisting that police could have conspired to have him out of Kisii Police Station.
"He was in Kisii police cells and was to be arraigned in court on Wednesday. But he cannot be traced and police officers do not want to talk about him. I have even got a call from one of his brother who wants us to handle the matter out of court. They know where he is," said the victim.
Nyamira DCIO Millicent Ochuka said that she's only 'hearing' about the arrest but cannot be able to tell the police behind it.
"I just heard about it. I know there were many complaints about him but I don't know who should be asked about his whereabouts. In brief, I don't know too," she said.
Mr. Obutu is brother to Nyamira First Lady Naomi Nyagarama and is said to be using the First Family to obtain money from unsuspecting members of the public throw fraudulent means.
