A 28-year-old woman is nursing injuries after she was beaten by her husband over chips on Tuesday mid-morning at Sameta shopping center in Kisii County.
Witnesses said Abel Orioki attacked his wife, Mellen Nyanchama for allegedly using his money to buy chips.
"Abel is a bodaboda rider hustling to make ends meet but, his wife Nyanchama is careless in spending. She used Sh100 to buy chips which her husband left for them to buy electricity token. Abel returned home and demanded the money to top up so that they can get KPLC token only for the wife to tell him she spend the money to buy chips," said Walter Nyamote.
Mr Nyamote said an angered Orioki descended on his wife with kicks and blows.
Nyamote added that the woman was rescued from the beating by neighbors. Area administrator Daniel Mogusu confirmed the incident and urged the married couple to live in peace, harmony, and unity.
"Men should understand their women well and ensure they don't give women a lot of money which they may end up spending carelessly. Couples should live in peace for the sake of building strong marriages," he said.
