The Kenya National Highways Authority (Kenha) on Wednesday begun a demolition exercise targeted at buildings and business premises erected in road reserves.
The demolition which began Wednesday in Garissa has seen buildings along the Kismayu road brought down by the Kenha officers.
Even as the exercise continues, there is a heavy presence of armed security officers in the scene to deal with any possible violent reactions from the owners and business holders.
Before today's exercise, the Kenha authority had issued a notice informing the business owners of the exercise.
And just as is the norm with many Kenyans, people could be seen removing their property from the premises that have been marked for demolitions.
Weeks ago, the demolition exercise began in Nairobi with big business being brought down by Nairobi county government.
Some of the buildings that have since been brought down include Taj mall even as eyes are turned on DP Rutto's controversial Weston Hotel.
