Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has been the latest opposition-allied leader to lash out at Deputy President William Ruto over his latest attacks on opposition boss Raila Odinga.
Ruto has raised serious claims, alleging that Raila is using his closeness to president Uhuru Kenyatta to destroy the ruling Jubilee Party ahead of the 2022 general polls.
Speaking during a fundraiser in Kilifi on Sunday, the Governor who doubles up as Raila's deputy leader at the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) rubbished the claims.
He accused the DP of using Raila as an excuse to justify the fact that the Jubilee leadership has failed to keep the party intact, reminding him that Raila remains an outsider.
“Raila is not interested in Jubilee affairs and Ruto should not drag his name. Jubilee should play their own politics,” he was quoted by the Tuesday Standard.
Joho was speaking in the company of his Kilifi counterpart and close buddy Amason Kingi, where they also hinted at pushing one of them to vie for the presidency in 2022.
However, he said that the job might be a hard one, stressing on the need for themselves and others eyeing the seat from the coast to unite coastal counties for better results.
“It is not important to just rush and contest for the presidency. One has to unite all the Coast counties to make headway in the presidential race,” said the county boss.
Also present was Tiaty MP William Kamket who presented Baringo Senator Gideon Moi's donation.
