Members of the dreaded Al-Shabaab terrorist group attacked a police post in Garissa County.
The Hamney police post is located near the Kenya-Somali border.
Officers manning the post opened fire at the militants who also returned fire.
Sustained gunshots were heard from the police post, an indication that the exchange lasted for some time.
The Garissa County Police Boss David Kerina confirmed the incident to the media, saying that a police officer attached to the post was nowhere to be found.
Four police officers involved in the exchange sustained injuries and are receiving medical treatment.
Mr Kerina paid tribute to the bravery of the officers, saying that they battled hard to fend off the attack.
